Matt brings over 20 years of hands-on experience in the Employee Benefits industry, having learned the business from the ground up. Although it was not what he had planned when graduating from the marketing program at NAIT, he discovered a passion for guiding business owners through the complex and evolving world of employee benefits. With a wealth of situational and technical expertise, Matt chose to take the leap to start his own firm based on his own vision for the industry. Joining the HGA partnership allows him to offer support to his clients beyond just health benefits, and to create impactful relationships with others in the business industry. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it’s exploring nature, relaxing with family at the lake, golfing, or pursuing his passions to the fullest.

Employee Benefits, Group Retirement, Wellness & Cost Control — Integrated Within HGA Group
We simplify employee benefits administration and procurement, reducing the time, confusion, and back-and-forth typically associated with renewals, carrier negotiations, and plan changes.
You didn’t start your business to decipher benefits renewals, chase insurers, or wonder if your plan is helping, or quietly hurting, your bottom line.
You want to attract and keep great people without overpaying, overcomplicating, or exposing your business to unnecessary risk.
At HGA Employee Benefits, we design and manage group benefits programs for Edmonton’s owner-managed companies that support retention, control costs, and align with your broader business strategy.
These aren’t “set-it-and-forget-it” benefits. It’s thoughtful, coordinated planning built around how your business really operates.
1. Benefits Plans That Attract and Retain the Right People
Competitive benefits matter, but only when they’re designed intentionally.
We build benefits programs that support recruitment and retention without inflating costs, helping you stay competitive in the market while reinforcing the culture you want to build.
Plans are structured to support:
- Talent attraction in tight labour markets
- Retention of high-performing team members
- Clear communication employees understand
2. Cost Control Without Cutting Corners
Benefits should support your people and your profitability.
We make benefit adjustments straightforward and strategic. Rather than purchasing everything from a single carrier, we help you select the strongest components from multiple providers and customize a plan built around your needs. The carriers adapt to your business — not the other way around.
The result is a benefits program that stays aligned with your business, not one that slowly drifts out of control.
3. Tax-Efficient Benefits That Work With Your Business Structure
Benefits planning doesn’t exist in isolation.
Because we work directly with HGA CPA, HGA People, and HGA Wealth, your benefits plan is designed to complement compensation strategy, payroll structure, and long-term planning, maximizing tax efficiency while staying compliant.
This coordination helps ensure benefits:
- Support overall compensation strategy
- Align with tax planning decisions
- Reinforce long-term business and owner goals
Most benefits advisors operate independently. We don’t.
Because HGA Employee Benefits operates inside the HGA Group ecosystem, your benefits strategy is coordinated daily with:
- HGA People on recruitment, retention, and HR compliance
- HGA CPA on tax efficiency and payroll planning
- HGA Wealth on owner and executive planning
- HGA Law LLP when benefits intersect with employment or governance considerations
This integration eliminates blind spots and ensures your benefits program supports, and not conflicts with, your broader business strategy.
- Stronger retention and reduced turnover costs
- Better employee engagement and clarity around benefits
- Controlled benefit spend with fewer renewal surprises
- Alignment between benefits, HR, tax, and compensation strategy
- Peace of mind knowing your plan is working as intended
We give you greater control over your plan instead of being driven by carrier constraints. When change becomes easier to implement, the dynamic shifts, allowing employers to proactively chart a clearer, more strategic course.
Instead of reacting to renewals and complaints, you gain a benefits strategy that supports growth and stability.
